End time events - Israel and the church

Last time I spoke on end-times we looked at how the Lord has over the last 500 years been restoring truth to His church. The church had to come out of apostasy if He was to come for a perfect Church….one without spot or wrinkle. We saw how since the early 1500’s there has been a restoration of truth and with the restoration there has often come a new denomination which regretfully has built a wall around that truth. The truths re-established covered justification by faith, sanctification, holiness, water baptism by immersion, believer’s baptism, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the priesthood of all believers, the gifts of the Spirit etc. One of those truths which we did mention was the re-establishment of Israel as a nation again before the coming of the Lord- this teaching was especially prevalent in the Brethren church and popularised by the Schofield Bible.

when you have some one special for dinner you can't just come home from work and throw something together. You have to fix the place up. The more important the person the more effort you put in. Let's say the General Manager is coming for Dinner. You would work for days getting the place ready. the more important the person who coming the more elaborate the prepartations. What abou Jesus and his return? What are you doing to be ready for his coming?

Jesus is coming back

Today, we have end of days movies, doomsday prophecies, all the conspiracy theories, messiah figures, the war against terror in the news every day…when I was in school it was Vietnam, the six-day war; when my mum was in school it was the Second World War. The last 100 years or so have been the most violent ever in history. Jesus spoke to fearful disciples, with hope - John 14:1-4 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” The promise of Jesus coming again is one of hope, security, making all things right in this troubled world.

At his feet

He said she had done ‘a good work’ for Jesus. He said ‘she has done what she could’. Are you frustrated about what you can’t do for the Lord? Maybe we need to focus on doing what we can do - we can worship Him. Nothing is wasted on Jesus. When we lavish our devotion on Jesus, we take away from His feet the fragrance of Jesus, as we go about in the world. Mary may not have known at the time, but Jesus said she had anointed him for His death. Jesus said that what she had done would be told as a memorial to her wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world – and here we are on the other side of the world from where this happened, and two thousand years later, and we are learning from her poured out offering.
Mary is famous today, not famous because of any clever thing, but because of her relationship of poured out, costly devotion to Jesus, in spite of everything that was happening around her, in spite of criticism, in spite of danger, in spite of everything that just had to be done – she poured out her offering of worship devotion at Jesus’ feet.
May we follow her example and be true, generous, poured out worshippers at the feet of Jesus.

The God of Elijah

When Jesus was ministering through Caesarea Philippi he asked His disciples who did men say that He was. They answered that some say Elijah, some John the Baptist, and
yet others one of the prophets. It was Peter who came up with the correct answer that he was the Christ, meaning the anointed of God and the promised Messiah Mark 8:27-29.
People saw within Jesus some of the apocalyptic preaching of associated with both John and Elijah. Firstly, I want to look at the parallel ministries of Elijah and Moses because they both appear on the Mount of transfiguration with Jesus.

Heaven - Better Than This?

Heaven is the place that most Christians see themselves as being bound to go after this life. It is the Christian hope. There have of late been a plethora of books written by people who claim to have died, gone to heaven, and in some cases been taken by the Lord and shown Hell as well, then revived and written their story.

There are three that bear witness in the earth the Apostle John tells us…they are the blood, the Holy Spirit and water. All three have both a natural and spiritual importance. They testify to the activity of God in the earth right down from creation to our re-creation! How important is the water!
Water testifies today of our salvation experience…it is a witness to the Christ within! It witnesses today to the change Christ has wrought in our hearts- it delivers and saves us because it speaks of a good conscience before God….We need to obey and be baptised!
